Audit looking to recruit lay members
The National Emergency Laparotomy Audit is looking to recruit interested people to its Patient and Families Involvement Group (PAFIG) at the Royal College of Anaesthetists, London.
The group provides critical input into the work the audit is doing to improve the quality of care received by patients undergoing emergency laparotomy. Laparotomy is the surgical incision into the abdominal cavity, for diagnosis or in preparation for major surgery.
The audit says that around 30,000 patients undergo emergency laparotomy each year. This high risk procedure is associated with almost one in 10 patients dying within 30 days of surgery.
The Patient and Families Involvement Group will consist of up to eight lay members who have had some experience, as a patient or carer, of emergency laparotomy surgery and associated services within the last five years.
The group would meet up to twice a year at the Royal College of Anaesthetists in London on a weekday. Although there is dialling in and video conferencing available.
If you are interested in this voluntary role, then read through the expression of interest form which also includes a role description and person specification.
