Care Quality Commission Consultation Response

October 25, 2017

The response to the Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) second consultation on proposals that aim to simplify and strengthen the way they regulate health and social care in England is now available.

The CQC consultation from June to August this year. People could feedback their views through an online survey or at consultation events. They received a total of 380 responses during the consultation period. CQC also held 10 consultation events in June and July 2017 with providers, stakeholder organisations and members of the public.

The CQC will begin to implement changes to registration, so that they can hold people to account at the right level when regulating providers.

CQC will also:

  • Change the way they regulate primary medical and adult social care services. This includes how CQC monitor providers and the frequency and scope of their inspections
  • Develop how they will monitor, inspect and rate new models of care and large or complex providers
  • Update their approach to the ‘fit and proper persons’ requirement

CQC’s next step is to implement these changes, and these will be introduced in a phased approach.

You can find the full consultation response documents here.
