Council of Governors

As a Foundation Trust, Lancashire Care has a Council of Governors which is responsible for holding to account (collectively and individually) the non-Executive Directors on the Trust Board. Governors appoint the non-Executive Directors including the Chair and have to approve the appointment of the Trust’s Chief Executive. They are also consulted about the Trust’s priorities and act as a critical friend to ensure that the Trust is meeting the needs of the communities that it serves.

The composition of the Council of Governors should reflect the diversity of those communities.  To achieve this Governors are drawn from three groups:

Public Governors – 16

Staff Governors – 7

Appointed Stakeholder Governors – 7 (appointed Governors include Partnership Organisations, health and wellbeing bodies, higher education)

Standing for Election
Public Governors are elected from constituencies that reflect the Local Delivery Partnership (LDP) areas within the Trust’s area of operation. This includes the new West Lancashire constituency which includes West Lancashire, Southport, Formby and St Helens.

  • The new West Lancashire constituency will elect two governors who must be resident within that area.
  • Candidates must be members of the Trust at the time of nomination (but can complete a membership form at the same time as their nomination).
  • Candidates must be 16 or over on 15 November.
  • Nominations close on 15 November.
