SUPPORT GROUP

Q&A’S

Sometimes a diagnosis of lung cancer can make you feel alone and afraid. Getting to know other people who have similar experiences can be helpful. One of the ways we try and help you do this is by running support groups for people with lung cancer.

Who can join a support group?

Our group is open to anyone who is currently having treatment and to those who have completed treatment for lung cancer. Equally important members can be family and carers who are accompanying you and may find it helpful to share thoughts and feelings with others who are looking after relatives.

Why join a support group?

A group can provide useful information about the impact of lung cancer. Our support group is facilitated by the Clinical Nurse Specialist team and guest speakers can be organised to discuss different aspects relating to lung cancer.

It can be uplifting to be amongst people who understand how you are feeling within in a relaxed environment.

Do I need to attend every meeting?

Our group meets on a monthly basis, you don’t have to attend every meeting just come and join us when it is convenient for you.

Meeting Venue

The Marina Dalglish Unit, Aintree University Hospital, Longmoor Lane, L9 7AL.

The Marina Dalglish Unit can be found on the 5th Floor of the Centre for Woman’s Health. There are drop off areas outside of the building and several car parks within the grounds of the hospital.

About Our Lung Cancer Support Group

Our support group covers North Liverpool, Sefton and Knowsley. Patients and carers from surrounding areas are also welcome to join us.

The group is held on a monthly basis in the Marina Dalglish Unit based at Aintree University Hospital. The area is well served by road, bus and rail transport networks. Free car parking passes are available for barrier car parks and can be provided on the day.

The group formed in 2017 and we meet on the last Friday of the month at 1.30 until 3.30pm.

Our support group is very informal, it is based around tea/coffee and a chat but we will discuss relevant lung cancer issues and have occasional guest speakers. If required there are facilities to speak in private with a member of the Lung cancer nurse specialist team.
