Progress on Mersey Care hospitals
Milestones in the construction of two of Mersey Care’s major new-builds have taken place and were marked by visits of Board members, civic leaders and construction partners.
The Trust’s new medium-secure unit Rowan View, being built at Maghull Health Park close to Ashworth Hospital, held a ‘First Bolt’ ceremony now that steelwork can be seen, that will form the entrance hall to the facility being built by Kier Construction.
Chief Executive Joe Rafferty, Chairman Beatrice Fraenkel and Executive Director of Estates, Elaine Darbyshire, were among those to tighten the bolts on the steelwork. The facility will provide 123 beds, therapy and sports facilities and will become the new location for our regional medium-secure unit for mental health and learning disability care. Lead clinician Dr Frank McGuire spoke of the future legacy we are building, creating the highest standard for medium-secure care.
As work progresses on the £20 million new mental health hospital in Southport, due to open early in 2020, dignitaries visited the Scarisbrick New Road site nine months on to see progress by the construction team from Farran Heron Joint Venture. Civic leaders said they were impressed with the development and standard of accommodation the new hospital will provide.
