Southport new hospital build hopes to boost local economy

February 18, 2018

Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust’s new 44-bed mental health hospital in Southport will be showcased to local businesses in a bid to help sub-contractors and suppliers boost the local economy during its construction phase.

Building work on the multi-million pound project is underway and the construction company Farran Heron Joint Venture (FHJV) have started extensive groundworks.

The hospital is due to be fully operational within two years.

Following its ground-cutting ceremony in the run up to Christmas, the hospital will be built alongside Mersey Care’s existing Boothroyd mental health unit, situated off Scarisbrick New Road.

It will replace the current services at Boothroyd, which will be first to be housed at the new hospital before its old Victorian buildings can be demolished, followed by a move of wards and services from nearby Hesketh Centre, Southport.

Mersey Care and their construction partners have been working with InvestSefton and Sefton@Work at Sefton Council’s investment and employment service to organise a ‘Meet the Buyer’ event at Bootle Town Hall on 22 February (9.30am to noon).

This will promote local regeneration by putting local contractors and suppliers directly in touch with FHJV, enabling them to bid for opportunities to work on and provide fixtures for the new-build.

Places to the ‘Meet the Buyer’ are free to local tradespeople, suppliers and businesses, but booking is essential via InvestSefton on 0151 934 3452 or email: info@investsefton.com
