Southport Liveable Neighbourhood events
Southport Liveable Neighbourhood Project from Sustans has organised a series of events to share feedback on its recent surveys.
Based on the feedback from the community so far, there will be no restrictions on through traffic for Shakespeare Street and Duke Street.
One of the key findings from the surveys was that 63% of people who responded to the survey question ‘What do you dislike about your street’ answered that ‘traffic was too fast’ and/or ‘there was too much traffic’.
To address this issue and others raised, the team will be working with the community to create safer, quieter and more pleasant areas within the rest of the wider project area.
Find out more about what other people have said about the area and help design improvements at one of the upcoming events:
Saturday 22nd May 11am to 3pm on the corner of St Paul’s Square and Duke Street
The team says: “Bring your imagination, local knowledge or design flair to help design improvements to your neighbourhood at the outdoor Design Drops-ins. Bring the family and get involved!
“Grab a coffee from Squirrel Coffee van then follow the one way system in the gazebos to look at the Story boards of the project so far. Then end up at one of the two Design Drop In stations.
“Design options for some of the issues the community have identified will be on display. We will have pencils, stickers and tracing paper for you to get designing improvements for your street. The project team will be there to help you and answer any questions you may have.
“Non Stop Kids will be on hand to entertain the children and we will have competitions and prizes for the children to enter too!
“Finally, we will be creating our very own Southport Liveable Neighbourhood Wonky Garden. You can choose a plant vegetable or flower from Wonky Gardens to pot up and grow on in your garden or on your windowsill.
“To make things easier we have allocated 10 minute time slots for one of the Design Drop-in stations. You can book a 10 minute time slot through Eventbrite to talk to a member of the project team and start designing your improvements at a time to suit you.
“Everyone is welcome to the event and you can also just turn up on the day, but you may have to wait for the Design Drop-in station as we will have to restrict numbers within the gazebo.”
Book on Saturday’s event through Eventbrite here.
Wednesday 26th May 4pm to 7pm outside the Salvation Army, Shakespeare Street.
“We will have our story boards and Design Drop-in Stations at this event too. You can join in with creating the Southport Liveable Neighbourhood Wonky Garden as plants will be available for you!”
Book on for the Wednesday evening event here.
Wednesday 26th May 10am to 4pm Pop-up Events.
“Look for the blue umbrella between 10am and 4pm throughout the project area as we ‘Pop up’ at various locations to talk to passers-by about the project and design improvements they would like to see on their streets!
“It will be lovely to meet everyone outdoors and in the gazebos. Everyone is welcome to the event and you can also just turn up on the day, but you may have to wait for the Design Drop-in station as we will have to restrict numbers within the gazebo.”
