School Nurses Scoop Award
13/05/2016

School Nurses from Liverpool Community Health (LCH) NHS have been recognised for their hard work and commitment which supported the delivery of the National Childhood Vaccination programme.
The School Nurses are registered nurses who specialise in public and child health. The School Health team consists of school nurses, community staff nurses, clinical support workers and administration staff. They work closely with children and young people, parents, carers and teachers, promoting health and well-being in accordance with the Healthy Child Programme (5-19 years).
The team received the LCH Star Award after being nominated by a fellow colleague. The nomination highlighted how the health professionals immunised in the region of 18,000 children against the flu virus across the Liverpool and Sefton area over an 8 week period.
Johanna Reilly, Chief Operating Officer at LCH who presented the team with the award explains: “This award is a testament to the team’s commitment to protect those who are at greater risk from flu. The mass vaccination programme will have not only have helped protect children from getting the flu, but also helped prevented the spread of the flu virus to their families and friends too. In a very short period of time, the teams were trained, engaged with the local schools and parents to share information about the new nasal spray vaccine and then immunised the children.”
Marie Williams, Service Lead for School Health said: “The School Nursing team are really proud to receive this award. The team are always professional, dedicated, caring, and responsive to the needs of the children and their families. It is an amazing achievement.”
The School Nursing service was chosen for the LCH Star Award via Judging Panel consisting of a range of LCH staff.
