Changes to Emergency Department waiting area at Alder Hey
The waiting area for our Emergency Department has been temporarily relocated to our Radiology Department.
Access to the Emergency Department reception, triage and waiting area will be through the Hospital atrium and looks like this:

Those attending our Emergency Department can still use the normal short stay car park and access the atrium through the WH Smith entrance.
Radiology patients will be asked to wait in a dedicated space within the Hospital Atrium.
Important:
Please note, due to limited space within our waiting areas, we are encouraging only one parent/carer with a child or young person where possible.
These changes are part of our ongoing building and improvement works around the Emergency Department, and is the next step in creating a new purpose-built facility that will home a Paediatric Admissions Unit, Same Day Emergency Centre and Urgent Treatment Centre.
Symptom Checker
We have been experiencing extremely high levels of attendance in the Emergency Department. If your need is not urgent, you could face a lengthy wait. Check your child’s symptoms before attending our Emergency Department by using our Symptom Checker tool below.
We have developed a new ‘symptom checker’ to help parents and carers understand their poorly child’s symptoms and what they can do for them. Using the Symptom Checker will help parents and carers decide where best to get the right care for their child, be it at home, at their local chemist, walk-in centre or GP, or with a trip to Alder Hey’s Emergency Department.
