Local nurse to paddle Liverpool to Leeds in a Dragon Boat
21/04/2016
A local nurse from Liverpool Community Health NHS Trust is attempting the first ever at 128 mile Dragon Boat paddle between Liverpool and Leeds to raise money for Merseyside & Cheshire Blood Bikes charity.
Anne San, who has worked in Liverpool as a Community Matron for 10 years, is a part of a Dragon Boat racing team based at Crosby Lakeside. The ‘Crosby Crusaders’, who meet and train every Sunday morning, decided to undertake the epic 128 mile Dragon Boat paddle on the Liverpool to Leeds canal.
They’ll be setting off on Monday 2 May from Liverpool Albert Dock and will be aiming to land in Leeds on Sunday 8 May. They’ll also be competing in the Bradford Lord Mayors Dragon Boat race on Saturday 7 May.
Merseyside & Cheshire Blood Bikes Charity provides free emergency support to the NHS quickly when needed out of hours in the North West. They transport Blood, Plasma, Platelets, Samples, Vaccines, Factor VIII, Donor Breast milk & any other urgently required medical items to hospitals – at night, weekends and bank holidays.
Anne said: “We have chosen the charity Merseyside & Cheshire Blood Bikes Charity because everyone knows the NHS has limited resources. Due to lower blood supplies, the expense of couriers, blood transfusion logistics and unpredictable demands Blood Bikes provide an essential cost free service to the NHS, Hospices and public.
“The service they provide is so fantastic we decided to raise funds for them hence this challenge which by the way has never been done in a dragon boat before.”
