Merseyside Fire and Rescue Services have provided the following information about their Home Fire Safety Check


Description

A service where members of the local Fire and Rescue Service will visit your home and carry out an inspection of your home.

The visit may be carried out, at a time convenient to yourself, by firefighters who are operational or a dedicated team from the local Fire and Rescue Service.

They are completely free and you may be eligible for free smoke alarms to be fitted were required. You will not be sold anything. Appointments are flexible to meet the individuals needs.

What happens when we visit you

A member of staff from Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service will attend the appointment.  Please ask for ID at the door before allowing anyone into your home.
A Home Fire Safety Check will be carried out with a series of questions for the occupant/occupant’s representative to answer.There is no set duration period for the visit to take place as this can depend on the size of the property, risks identified and engagement with the occupant.

Referral by partner agencies, self-referral via email using the attached referral form or telephone call to number listed
When is this service open?:
Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm Excluding public holidays and Christmas shutdown (25th December – 1st January typically) Weekend and out of hours appointments available on request with notice
How much will it cost me?:
There is no charge for smoke alarms or any other fire reduction interventions issued for: People aged 65 and over who have never had a visit by MF&RS, People with Adult Social Care Needs and living alone, Drug & alcohol misuse, People on Home Oxygen, People with Mental Health issues, Smokers with other Adult Social Care needs and Hoarders. Fire Service Direct will take all callers through a telephone assessment and where there are no Adult Social Care needs or there has been a previous visit by MF&RS there may be a charge for the provision and installation of smoke alarms.
Can I bring someone with me?:
We encourage joint visits with family members to ensure any fire safety advice is reinforced post visit. We also carry out joint visits with Housing Officers, Support Workers and Carers.
