Next Southport & Ormskirk Diabetes UK support group meeting will focus on eye screening

The Diabetes UK support group for Southport and Ormskirk invite you to attend their regular meetings held on the first Monday of the month at 7pm at The Richmond Hotel, 234 Scarisbrick Road, Southport, PR8 5HL.

Our meetings are open to anyone affected by, or living with, different types of diabetes.

• You will meet people who are living with pre-diabetes, or diabetes and have the opportunity to support and learn from each other.
• Find out about local services and agencies from a range of invited speakers.
• Relax in our free, friendly informal space, with ample free parking.

The theme of our next Community Diabetes Support Group on Monday 2nd March 2026 is;

“Diabetic Eye Screening: What it is and why you should do it.”

We will be welcoming Matt Dowbekin to our meeting. Matt is an Improving Screening Uptake Officer from the Liverpool and North Mersey Diabetic Eye Screening Programme (DESP).

Matt trained and worked as a Screener and Grader in South East London DESP.  He became an Improving Screening Uptake Officer in January 2026, and is focused on increasing uptake of diabetic eye screening across Liverpool, Sefton and West Lancashire.
