Top Liverpool Docs Warn: Take it Easy at the Races
07/04/2016
Top doctors at Aintree University Hospital are urging racegoers heading for the Grand National to take it easy and avoid an unexpected trip to the Emergency Department.
While the hospital’s major trauma teams are on standby in case of any injuries to jockeys, the hospital often sees often large numbers of alcohol-related slips, trips and accidents among the crowds attending the event, which runs from Thursday 7 April to Saturday 9 April.
Dr Libby Wilson, Emergency Department Consultant, said: “We want racegoers to spend their time at Aintree Racecourse, not Aintree University Hospital. The best way to enjoy your day at the races is to take it easy on the alcohol.
“When you’re doing your checklist for your big day out, remember to add simple steps like alternating alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.”
First aid is available at the racecourse, through the St John’s Ambulance Service, but more serious injuries are seen at Aintree University Hospital.
