Video released on cancer symptoms

March 11, 2019

People First Merseyside has put together a video to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancer for those with a learning disability.

Helen Flett, People First Merseyside Co-ordinator, explains: “As a result of theLearning Disabilities Mortality Review (LeDeR) Programme it was found that one of the biggest causes of death in people with learning disabilities is cancer. Some of these cancers may have been treatable if they had been found sooner.

“Recently, we attended the North West Regional Self Advocates conference in Blackpool and launched the film to 300 self-advocates. We want as many people with learning disabilities and people who provide support to see this film. It can be used in training sessions.”

There are also A3 size posters, A4 size flyers and booklets that People First Merseyside have designed and published on this subject which people can use. If you want more information on these and the video then contact People First Merseyside on 0151 329 2137 or visit their website.
